Vayakhale – Pikudai And He Gathered – Accountings

This week’s Torah Reading is a double portion. In addition this Shabbos has a special Torah Reading called Parashas Hachodesh – The Commandment to sanctify the New Month. This New Month was Nisan, the month that the Jewish nation would be redeemed from Egypt.

Yep Pesach is coming so it is cleaning time.

Right near the very beginning of the Torah Reading where it discusses donating for the Temple, the Torah describes the person giving whatever his heart desires to give. This concept of giving suggests that a person needs to have a pure heart when doing the Mitzvah of Tzedakah.

This emotion is central to the Temple. When we are focused on the spiritual then the value of the physical and its purpose is clear. We are to dedicate our physical selves and our possessions to a holy purpose in life. This is indeed a huge challenge with many obstacles and temptations. However, the priority is clear. To have a unified holy nation it is incumbent to recognize the spiritual importance and be prepared to give what our heart mandates for holiness to the Temple.

When we are focused on this priority and committed with our hearts toward giving and thus helping our fellow Jew, the Temple will be restored. May we continue to grow in this direction and to finally experience the rebuilding of our 3rd Holy Temple, to be gathered together as a nation (Vayakhale) and to be counted (Pikudai).
