Yisro – Yisro

This week’s Torah Reading is called Yisro – Yisro, Moshe’s father-in-law, who was obviously very special.

The Torah portion contains the giving of the 2 tablets that have written on it the 10 Commandments. It is interesting to note that keeping the Shabbos is among the 10 Commandments.

This tells us that it is a major player in life. The idea of taking a day off weekly is indeed healthy and good. This also gives us a sense that all of the Torah is good for us. This concept is needed as there are laws, called Chukeem, Statutes, that have no explanation other than it is the will of the Al-mighty so do it we must.

Shabbos reminds us of who created the world and we have a daily purpose. Each day we need to live a Torah life, a good wholesome, spiritual life, doing what is right in this very physical world.

Thus including Shabbos was really an automatic( a no brainer may not be proper in this case). By leading a Shabbos life and really a proper daily life we set the tone for the ultimate fulfillment of the time when the world will be a time of total spiritual goodness and called Yom Shekulu Shabbos, a day that is always Shabbos, just simply beautiful. May it be very soon.
