Vayeegash – And He Approached

This week’s Torah Reading is Vayeegash – And He Approached.

The first day of the week is also the final day of Chanukah.

May miracles continue for the Jewish Nation with the ultimate miracle of redemption.

In the Torah Reading we find Yehuda trying to save his brother Benyamin from being jailed for theft. Thus Benyamin would not return to his father in Israel. Yehuda had promised that Benyamin would return safely and thus he speaks up now.

We are all connected to Yehuda, as we are also called Yehudeem, Jews. We need to sense our responsibilities when we see our brothers and sisters in a difficult situation. We may even be facing a very difficult challenge and difficult person, but this cannot and should not stop our actions.

We need to acknowledge that we are indeed brothers and sisters so to speak and act accordingly when one needs help. This form of caring will lead ultimately to saving the individual and also in time the Jewish Nation. Our ticket to redemption is indeed Ahavat Yisroel, the love of a fellow Jew. We need to express this and soon we will reap the final reward. The miracle of Chanukah, showed us this as well.
