Aikev – Heel

This week’s Torah Reading is called Aikev – Heel. In the Torah reading we are told many beautiful things. We are also rebuked for our bad behaviour or actions at times. (Perhaps this is a good thing to keep in mind when dealing with someone – to give both the negative and positive when you want to reach that person and have a good affect to cause improvement.)

We are reminded also in the Torah reading not to forget the Al-mighty when we have life really good. There is a tendency when things are running real smooth to forget who actually runs things. We may tend to think we are doing it solely on our own. We forget that our actions are being blessed. We begin to think that we are so talented, so clever, so strong and so on. Hey that may be true. However, bottom line, without the Al-mighty’s blessing it will not work out.

Aikev means heel. There is a tendency to become hardened in the wrong way.
We must always be sensitive to where our blessings really come from. In this way we will treat everyone in a positive way and thus bring the light into the world that will lead to our final redemption.
