Vaeschanan – And I Pleaded

This week’s Torah reading is Vaeschanan, “And I pleaded”. This Shabbos is also called Shabbos Nachamu, when we are comforted from the destruction of our Holy Temple and our exile from the land of Israel.

This is a fully packed Torah Reading with again the repetition of the 10 Commandments and the Shema Yisroel – Hear Oh Israel (the L-rd Our G-d the L-rd is One).

In the Torah Reading we are told an amazing concept. The Torah tells us that the eyes of the world looks upon us. (wow and here we are in this time frame and all you have to do is look at the news to see how many times Jews and Israel are mentioned. Anybody see any major daily articles on China or India? I think they have a slightly larger population and a little larger country.)

The Torah informs us that if we want the world to see us in a positive light then we need to show our strong attachment to the Al-mighty and His Torah. When we wander the nations of the world look at us with a negative eye.

We need to strive to care for one another, show the world our positive attitude
and our commitment to Torah and the laws. This will bring a positive light to the world and ultimately our 3rd Holy Temple.
