Meekaitz – End

This Shabbos the Torah Reading is Meekaitz –  End.  It is a triple header.  It is Shabbos,  it is Chanuka and it is also Rosh Chodesh.  Thus we will be reading from 3 Torahs. Wow, fully packed.

We also read in the Torah that Yoseph will meet with first his brothers that wanted to do away with him and as a result Yoseph ended up in Egypt. (Where he become Prime Minister and is able to save their lives from famine – the strange “Hand of the Al-mighty” at work.

Towards the end of the Torah Reading he also will meet up with Benyamin, his brother.  Yoseph will choose to frame Benyamin for theft and have him arrested. (Very nice after about 22 years of separation this is how Yoseph treats his brother, Benyamin, born from their same mother Rochel.)  Yes his intention was to see if the other brothers had changed and were now willing to put their life on the line to protect Benyamin.  They did and thus Yoseph sees that the negative attitude their brothers once had has ended and has been replaced with a positive attitude.  They are now ready to enter the phase of exile (moving to Egypt) with the skill to survive.

Yehuda, the brother that stepped forward to protect Benyamin, will also later be sent ahead to set up a Yeshiva for the children to learn in while in Egypt.  Thus further giving a guarantee to their survival while in exile.

The fact that this coming Shabbos is also Chanuka, when we defeated the Greek culture and showed the purity of our Torah way of life, is very relevant.  We regained our Holy Temple and celebrated  lighting the Menorah once again with pure oil.

It is also Shabbos Rosh Chodesh, when the New Moon is rejuvenated and begins to shine once again.  We, the Jewish nation, are compared to the moon.

May we soon experience the blessings of Chanuka and Rosh Chodesh with the building of our 3rd Holy Temple.
