Vayailech – And He Went

TheTorah Reading for this week is Vayailech – And He Went.  It is also Shabbos Shuva, the Shabbos before Yom Kippur where we are focused on returning to the Al-mighty by avoiding the negatives and doing the positives in life.

In the Torah portion we are told of the special commandment that takes place every 7 years, Hakhel.  This is the gathering and coming together of the entire Jewish Nation on the first day of Chol HaMoed (Intermediate Days) of Succos.  They would all attend at the Temple in Jerusalem and hear the King read part of the Book of Devarim.  This year is indeed Shnas Hakhel, the Year of Hakhel.

Thus it is clear what our objective should be so that soon we can be together with our  human king, Moshiach, experiencing the presence of our Al-mighty King, in our Holy 3rd Temple in Jerusalem.

We need to excel in the commandment of Ahavas Yisroel, the love and concern of our fellow Jew.  It is also interesting to note that Erev Rosh Hashona is the birthday of the Tzemach Tzedek, Menachem Mendel Schneerson the 3rd Lubavitcher Rebbe and follower of the Baal Shem Tov’s Chassidic movement that stressed Ahavas Yisroel.

This should also help serve as a strong signal of what we need to focus on to bring about the 3rd Bais Hamikdosh and may we truly succeed this year.  This would be our greatest blessing.
