Korach – Korach

This week’s Torah Reading is Korach – Korach, the story of the Rebellion of Korach and his cohorts.  It is also the week of Rosh Chodesh Tamuz.

After Korach and his cohorts are killed, the nation complains to Moshe.  Wow we are a crazy nation and the headaches we give are leaders.  Perhaps now we can understand why Moshe argued with the Al-mighty before returning to Egypt, about being their future leader.  Taking care of Pharoh and Egypt, that was not the problem.  It was dealing with his own Jewish Nation that was going to be the constant problem and Moshe wanted to take a pass.  Well that did not happen.

From the Jewish Nation’s perspective, a little bit crazy to constantly bother and challenge Moshe when each time they saw miracles happen.  However, here again they are complaining.  According to some it was that they had no representatives in the Beis Hamikdosh it was only Aaron, his sons and the Levites.  No longer were the first born involved.  They lost that right.

The Jewish Nation still wanted some representation.  The Al-mighty showed them that Aaron, his sons and the Levites were indeed very worthy of managing the Beis Hamikdosh, each with their separate responsibilities.

We are indeed a holy nation, as we witnessed the giving of the Torah and the many miracles provided to us.  We do have an opportunity, so to speak, to serve in the Beis Hamikdosh.  That is to see to it that our physical bodies indeed are up to the proper level to  receive the Divine soul that we are given.  This we do by seeing that all our limbs act according to the Torah and the desires of the Al-mighty.  In this way we will soon merit to see the 3rd Beis Hamikdosh, yes with the Kohanim doing the service, but each of us bringing our sacrifices to the Holy 3rd Temple.
