Shemeenee – Eighth

This week’s Torah Reading is Shemeenee –  Eighth.  It is also Shabbos Mevorchim, the Shabbos that we bless the new month which is Iyar.  The Haphtorah, reading from the Prophets is also special as it is Mochar Chodesh, the new month begins right after Shabbos.

In the Torah Reading we find a very strange event.  Namely the death of Aaron’s two sons, Nadav and Avihu.  We are told they wished to offer an incense offering which they did and as a result they died.  They were not commanded, and yes they acted in good faith but they aired in their actions.  Certain actions are only to be undertaken when directly told to do so.

Some may have a great tendency to want to help people.  The Kohaneem have that responsibility.  They set out to bless the nation that the people will all do the will of the Al-mighty.   By doing this very special Mitzvah they come closer to the Al-mighty.  It is thus very important we recognize correctly what we are suppose to do.  By properly living up to our responsibilities this brings back the Shechinah, Omnipresence, and the nation is indeed blessed
