Tzav – Command

This week’s Torah Reading is Tzav – Command. It is also called Shabbos Zachor – Shabbos Remember, to remember Amalek, the nation that attacked the Jewish People. Amalek attacked after we left Egypt, with all the various miracles and even the miracle of the Crossing of the Yom Soof – Read Sea. They wished to stop the historical event of Mt. Sinai, the giving of the Torah. Haman, a descendant of Amalek, wished to destroy the Jewish Nation, the recipients of the Torah from Mt. Sinai.

In many ways it is appropriate that Zachor comes out on this week’s Torah Reading of Tzav. Tzav stands for Command. When we follow a command we show that we are attached (Tzav also means attached) to the Commander, in this case, the Al-mighty. Zachor is a reminder to remember that we should fight and destroy that which wishes us to separate from receiving the Torah and surviving as a Jewish Nation. Amalek was defeated and we went on to receive the Torah at Mt. Sinai. Haman was defeated and we went on to having the Bais Hamikdosh rebuilt.

Soon, again, by remembering Amalek and staying attached (Tzav) by listening to the Commander – the Al-mighty and His Commands (Tzav) we will merit also to have the Bais Hamikdosh rebuilt.
