Pikudai – Accountings

This week’s Torah Reading is Pikudai – Accountings. It deals with the actual inventory of what was collected for the construction of the Mishkan – Temple in the desert. It also contains the actual assembly of the Mishkan and all the items to be in and service the Mishkan. This week is also called Parshas Shkaleem. The giving of a half shekel by each male age 20 and above. This was the method how they were counted. It is also Shabbos Mevorchim, the Shabbos we bless the New Month which is the 2nd Adar, the month that the holiday of Purim occurs. It is also Shabbos Erev Rosh Chodesh as the New Month begins on Sunday. There are various customs as to which Haftorah – Prophet to read after the Torah Reading. Finally it is the last Parsha – Section in the 2nd Book of the Torah. Thus it is also called Shabbos Chazak, where we conclude a section of the Torah and we should become strengthened – (Chazak) by it.

Wow, that was loaded as is the actual Torah Reading. At the very end, when the Mishkan – Temple is fully assembled a cloud descends representing the Al-mighty’s presence in the Mishkan.

This is an appropriate end to the 2nd Book called Shemos which we refer to as Exodus. It indeed marks the end of the Jewish Exile with the return of the Al-mighty’s presence, so to speak, as it was in the time of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yakov, where the Al-mighty’s presence rested over their tents.

We await the return again in the final 3rd Temple. May it happen immediately.
