Vayeegash – And He Approached

This week’s Torah Reading is Vayeegash – And He Approached.

Toward the end of the Torah Reading we are told how Yoseph cumulates the wealth for Pharoh in Egypt during the first years of the famine. Clearly another good Jewish businessman. Pharoh is very happy with this. (Who would not be?). Thus we will find that Pharoh is very happy and excited to hear that Joseph’s father and family are coming to stay in Egypt. Pharoh offers them anyplace they wish to live in.

Yakov meets with Pharoh and blesses him. As a result of this blessing the famine stops.

We will find at the end of the exile. The Jewish nation takes a great amount of the Egyptian wealth. This in fact was proper. They had worked against their will for many years and wages were owed. However, the person who had arranged for the Egyptian nation to be wealthy was indeed Yoseph. The monies Pharoh had accumulated were directly because of Yoseph. Thus Yoseph’s descendants had a certain claim and right to the treasury.

This concept actually goes back to Avraham. When he was blessed, it says that through Avraham and his special descendants, the Jewish Nation, all the nations of the earth shall be blessed. The nations are blessed that live well with the Jewish people. (Hint, hint to the UN).

Anyhow when our present exile will end we too shall leave with great wealth.
