Aikev – Heel

This week’s Torah Reading is called Aikev – Heel. In the Torah Reading Moshe reviews what had happened 40 years ago when they had received the Torah on Mt. Sinai. While he was up there, the B’nai Yirsoel were concerned that Moshe had died (the Satan showed them an image of Moshe apparently dead) and they had Aharon build them a Golden Calf to worship.

Moshe came down from Mt. Sinai real upset and angry. ( I would be upset and angry too if people thought I was the same as a calf even a ‘golden calf’). (Besides nowhere does it say that Moshe was like a ‘fat’ cow and on the contrary he was probably in good shape to be able to climb mountains). Anyhow he broke the first set of tablets. He reminds them that he went up, got the Al-mighty to forgive the Jewish Nation and came down with a 2nd set of tablets that he had cut and the Al-mighty had written on. This was Yom Kippur, the day that was forever to be a day of forgiveness for the Jewish Nation.

This repetition of the Sin of the Golden Calf in this week’s Torah Reading called Eikev – Heel, is a reminder that we must walk carefully in our day to day activities. We need to walk with Emuna – Faith that the Al-mighty is with us and that it is the Al-mighty that will grant us success in all our endeavors. Yes it is us that take the steps, and we must take those steps, but with strong faith that the Al-mighty will bless all our activities each day. Until we take the final steps that lead us all to Geula – Redemption.
