Biha’aloscha – When You Will Light

This week’s Torah Reading is Biha’aloscha – When You Will Light. Aharon is given the commandment to light the Menorah. This all takes place almost a year after they left Egypt. The Mishkan, the Temple in the desert was finally set up on Rosh Chodesh Nisan.

The Jewish Nation is then commanded once again to bring a Pesach sacrifice, it now being one year after the Exodus. There were certain individuals who were impure and were therefore not able to bring the Passover offering. They asked Moshe what should they do. Moshe then asked the Al-mighty. The Al-mighty answers that they have a second chance to bring it one month later, on the 14th of Iyar. (We call this Pesach Shainee – the 2nd Pesach).

This is an amazing concept. We see that when a Jew wants to fulfill the Al-mighty’s command he is given a second chance. Each Mitzvah that we do brings light into this world as did the Menorah. When we truly want to light up the world with our positive actions, the Al-mighty will see to it that we even have a second chance.

Let us take advantage of our chances and bring light into the world of darkness until once again we will have Aharon lighting the Menorah in our 3rd Bais Hamikdosh.
