Vayeekra – And He Called

This week’s Torah Reading begins the 3rd book in the Torah, Vayeekra – And He called. Moshe is called, selected by the Al-mighty. Even though it is written with a small Hebrew Aleph, a sign of Moshe’s humility, it is a special calling from the Al-mighty. Moshe actually had a variety of callings or responsibilities. Bottom line, Moshe was to bring the Jewish Nation closer to the Al-mighty through their daily service. study of Torah and fulfillment of commandments.

Each one of us has a spark of Moshe in us. We therefore have a similar calling. Each day we are to try and bring ourselves (and others) closer to the Al-mighty through our daily service, study of Torah and fulfillment of commandments.

We often find ourselves in a variety of situations. We must delve into the specific situation we are presently in and find the path that leads to being close to the Al-mighty. It is a constant challenge and there may be sacrifices that we have to make. Thus the 3rd Book, Vayeekra begins with the concept of sacrifices. This alludes to the daily sacrifices that we are called upon to make.

We need to be constantly aware that we are indeed the Al-mighty’s ambassadors to this world. Our mission is to bring this world closer to the Al-mighty so that once again the Al-mighty will have a dwelling place below on earth in the 3rd Bais Hamikdosh, may it happen very, very soon.
