Emor – Say

This weeks’ Torah Reading is Emor.  It contains a powerful commandment, the “Offering of the Omer”.  Today we keep this by counting the days from the 2nd night of Passover until the 10 Commandments were uttered on Mt. Sinai, Shavuous.

It is interesting to note that it is a count up rather than a count down.  It perhaps represents the idea of each day drawing closer to that level of spiritual purification – self improvement – that will allow us to participate in the experience of Mt. Sinai.

True, only Moshe made it up to the top, but every man, woman and child was present at the event and could hear and feel the presentation of the 10 Commandments.

We have what to strive for in the coming days remaining to that historical event that changed mankind.
