Matos-Masii – Oaths

This week is a double portion.  We read Matos together with Masii.  The Torah reading starts with the concept of oaths and promises made, must be kept or how they can properly be nullified and by whom.

What we say and commit to do is very important.  The words that come out of our mouths carry great weight.  We all know of the concept of evil gossip and the harm that it can do.  When we make a promise or take an oath it is important that we follow through.

In the Torah, we have seen that the Al-mighty has made commitments and worked to fulfill them.  The Exile in Egypt and the Exodus from Egypt were all promises made to our Forefathers.

Certainly good things that we also commit to do we should see to it that we fulfill them.  If we take care of our responsibilities and obligations, the Al-mighty will hasten the final fulfillment of His responsibility, the ultimate redemption of His children.
